Youth issues are never really completely solved forever. When you think you have explained it to one generation, that generation grows up and another set of problems arise again. Why do college students procrastinate is not easily answered because it is one of the plagues that come with adolescence and beyond. Many a time the students that procrastinate learn why only after their delaying a particular project or term paper lands them in trouble.

Why Do College Students Procrastinate? Reason # 1: They Do Not Know Murphy’s Law.

The famous Murphy’s Law states that if anything can go wrong; it usually does. Therefore, if the computer has to crash the night before the term paper is due or the electricity has to go the night before the big exam, it usually will. Once this really happens to students, they try to start preparing in advance so that even if things do wrong at the last minute, they have some preparation underway.

Why Do College Students Procrastinate? Reason # 2: They Are Not Serious Enough.
Students take life too easy. They usually do not have to shoulder major responsibilities, they usually do not have to pay their own rent or feed a family so life is really a piece of cake. They are so involved in their fun and games that everything else usually takes a back seat.

Why Do College Students Procrastinate? Reason # 3: You Are Only Young Once.

Or so they are told. That is why they want to live life to the fullest. They want to have all the fun at sorority parties, beer festivals and late night movies. Whether they live in a dorm or share an apartment, they feel everything can wait except having spontaneous fun.

Why Do College Students Procrastinate? Reason # 4: They Do Not Want To Be A Nerd.

They think it is nerdy to be done with your work before time. They are afraid of being labeled a geek or weird if they have their exam mastered or report printed and bound a week before submission deadlines. They feel it is cool to scramble the night before, put an all-nighter and feel the adrenalin rush. Just like mothers have to threaten to take a privilege away unless kids clean up their room when they were younger, college students need to feel the loom right on their horizon before they stop the process of procrastination.. Two weeks seems like eternity for someone who lives in the moment. Tomorrow sounds more of a reason to get something done.

When teachers and parents ask why do college students procrastinate, they often forget that they did the exact same thing twenty odd years ago.

Bad Habit For Adult Life

A main reason why procrastination is bad is because it does not just hurt when you are young and carefree, if you get into the habit of putting things off, then it can hurt with more serious consequences in your adult life. In college or school, a student may learn why procrastination is bad if he gets a poor grade. However, in real life, if you put off paying bills, interest charges that may accrue can pinch badly. If you put off saving, you will learn why procrastination is bad when you do not have a nest egg during rainy days or recessions and will have nothing saved for retirement.

Personal Situations

Procrastination may be bad for your personal life too as if you repeatedly delay household chores or spousal duties such as taking out the garbage or pitching in with doing the dishes or cooking, your marriage and other relationships can suffer. You may finally realize why procrastination is bad if your marriage is at the brink because of things you did not take too seriously and your most precious assets, your children, are caught in the web of custody battles and visitation rights.

Hurts Your Dependability Factor

Another reason why procrastination is bad is that it hurts your credibility. If a friend needs something, your reputation may be so tarnished that he does not rely on you to get a job done when he needs you. Your best friend may have fallen ill and she needs to get her children from school. She might think twice before asking you because she knows you are not punctual or will dilly-dally until school is nearly out and then are caught in bumper-to-bumper traffic near school.

There may be different reasons why college students procrastinate or why retired people procrastinate or why husbands procrastinate, but there is never a good enough reason.

No Inner Peace

Another reason why procrastination is bad is because it robs you off your inner peace. You are always late for something, you are always rushing out the door, applying makeup in the car, texting while driving and actually risking your life and those with you. It may seem like a simple thing to procrastinate dental appointments, but the day your cavity gets really bad and you miss a day of work with your important sales presentation and you lose that client and your hopes for a promotion, then you may realize why procrastination is bad.

It is always better to realize before some dire consequences are sent your way. So do what you can today- rather do it now.

High school students may put off things for a number of reasons. Immaturity tops that list. They are not responsible adults and think that they can get away by living in the present and not planning for the future. They usually live with their families and know there is someone to support them or run to Kinko’s with them at 2am if they need to print something or if they have delayed a report for too long. They know they have that safety net and that is one of the major reasons why students procrastinate.

Another reason why high school students may procrastinate is that they know they have college to go to before they enter the real world. Even if they do not get into the best of colleges, they feel there is still time to take it easy and have a laid back attitude.
The question should not be so much as to why students procrastinate but what can be done to remedy the situation. They do not understand why procrastination is bad and that is something teachers, coaches and parents need to work on - together.

If they see that consequences are meted out according to how they prepared for an exam or report and that being prepared ahead of time does matter will make all the difference. If they feel hey can get an A if they submit the report while putting in an all-nighter the day before the deadline or whether they do it two weeks in advance, they will feel it is not worth doing things in advance when the results are the same. This could be a reason for why students procrastinate.

Solutions for Why Students Procrastinate

One solution may be for teachers to require progress reports. So if, for instance, a major case study report is due after three months, the teacher should give 20 percent of the grade to the progress reports that the student turns in each month. This way he or she will have to start working from the first day as a fifth of his grade depends on the progress reports.

Another example could be for a teacher to take a surprise quiz two days before the date announced. The kids who have been studying regularly will have an advantage as compared to those kids who planned to study only on the last day. This will indirectly ask the students why the students procrastinated.

Of course, things can go smoothly and people can ace exams even by putting in minimal efforts, but such exercises may set an example for most people that it is better to do things in advance.

Procrastination is something that people of all ages and backgrounds have experienced in their lifetime. Who hasn’t waited on cleaning the house or writing a paper until the very last minute possible? There are many different reasons for why people procrastinate. The following are just some of the many causes for this epidemic that seems to span generations.

Avoidance

One answer to the why do students procrastinate question is that kids and adults alike do not want to deal with difficult things. This can mean everything from a particularly hard essay to taking the car in for a check-up. People sometimes do not want to hear bad news because they worry it will be even more difficult to manage than the task in front of them. So, instead of dealing with the issue at hand, they instead procrastinate and try to distract themselves or pretend the issue doesn’t exist.

Can’t Concentrate

One of the main reasons why people procrastinate is that they can’t concentrate on the task at hand. When people sit down to finish or even start a task, their mind goes elsewhere. This can be because there are too many distractions around them or because they have a medical condition like ADD. Concentration doesn’t come naturally to some people. If you do not learn how to focus, this can become one of the many reasons why people procrastinate and do not start their work or projects ahead of time and have to work on them at the last minute. Thus, if you are having issues with procrastination, it may help to try completing the task in a new location or with help. This can help you at least start your work.

Fear of Failure

One of the most basic reasons why people procrastinate is that they do not want to fail at the task at hand. This can mean that they delay start on homework because they worry they are not good enough to receive a passing grade or that they fear calling back a friend or loved one because they worry the person they are worried about rejection. Thus, a fear or failure is one of the most common reasons why people procrastinate.

Poor Time Management Skills

Another common reason why people procrastinate is that they think they have more time than they do to complete a project. A lot of the time, people do not mean to put things off as long as they do. Instead, they just incorrectly measure the amount of time needed to complete a project.

The issue of procrastination is one that people of all ages and backgrounds have experienced at least once in their life time. Who hasn’t had a project or an errand to run but has postponed it until the very last minute possible? Waiting until the very last minute possible to do something or putting of what can be done today until later is something very common. And yet, no matter how common the issue is, people still ask the following question: “Why do people procrastinate?” There are many reasons why people procrastinate. The following are just some of the common answers to this age-old question.

Lack of Interest

One of the most common answers to the Why do people procrastinate question is that people just aren’t interested in the tasks at hand. They don’t want to finish essays or papers because they are not interested in the subject matter. Adults do not want to run an errand because it takes time and does not interest them. Folks do not return phone calls because they have little to no interest talking to the other people. Thus, one of the answers to the Why do people procrastinate is very basic: people simply don’t have an interest completing or even starting a task or project.

Avoiding Difficult News or Tasks

Folks often avoid or distract themselves from things that are unpleasant by procrastinating. Thus, one of the answers to the Why do people procrastinate question is that people don’t want to hear bad results or answers or because they think the task is a hard one. For example, if a car is making noises, a person may not want to hear that they need to invest in hundreds of dollars of repairs because it puts a financial strain on them and their life. Thus, instead of taking their car in for repairs, they may procrastinate on doing so. Procrastination becomes a way to keep stress and other emotions out of one’s life.

Confusion

Another reason behind the question of Why do people procrastinate is that people just don’t know how or where to start. If a person has homework on a new subject, they may procrastinate because the project seems too confusing. If a person doesn’t know where to start, then they may avoid the project instead of diving in. Thus, procrastination happens if a person has a project to start or complete that they have little to no information about.

It’s one of the age-old questions of the young and old: why procrastinate when we know deadlines are coming up and things have to get done? Why do people procrastinate when they know what will happen if the car doesn’t get fixed or if the project isn’t submitted on time? Though it may seem like there is no real reason to this age-old issue, there are answers to the why procrastinate question. The following are just some of the roots for why procrastination happens.

Time Management Skills

One of the main reasons for the why procrastinate question of life is that people often have never learned how to organize their time. This is a skill that does not come naturally to some people. If folks do not know how to prioritize their work and home lives, then they will not be able to identify what it most important and needs to be done first. Thus, one of the main reasons for procrastination is that folks simply do not know how to measure how much time they have and how to best use it.

Anxiety

One of the answers to the why procrastinate question is that some people do not know how to deal with stress. When confronted with a list of things to accomplish, they feel intense amounts of anxiety. When they experience feelings of anxiety, they spend more time worrying than doing. Thus, folks procrastinate because they can not overcome or move past their stress. They may even feel immobilized or isolated by the stress or anxiety they feel.

Poor Concentration

Another of the answers to the why procrastinate question is that people just can’t concentrate on the task at hand. This may be because of environmental factors. For example, if you are trying to focus on a project while dealing with other issues or in the mist of loud noise, then it makes sense that you won’t be able to concentrate enough to start or finish things. Additionally, you may be dealing with a medical condition like ADD or some other attention-type condition that’s at the root of the why procrastinate debate or issue.

Avoidance Issues

Lastly, a major reason behind the why procrastinate issue is that folks do not want to face difficult emotions or issues. Folks do this because they do not want to hear hard news or feel stress. Thus, instead of trying to dive into a project or running an errand, they avoid the issue and do other things instead.

Procrastination, like other behaviors carries effects. Whether the behavior is witting or unconscious, one will finally have to deal with the effects. The effects of procrastination info are something that we all have to face up and address with from time to time. It’s only natural to procrastinate at times but, the way one address with the procrastination designs will ascertain what effects procrastination has on the life.

Apparent Effects of Procrastination Info
One of the most apparent effects of procrastination info is the failure to draw the payoffs that would come from taking activity. When one procrastinates the individual simple fail to take action on the very things one knows will bring one the payoffs that one desires. Although one know what the individual require and even what one needs to do to get it, one still have to take action and it’s normally at this point where procrastination sets in.
Because the effects that one desires are oft something larger and better than what one actually has, one must step out the ease zone to get it. One might have to take activities that one is not comfy with to which the unconscious mind responds by “defending” one against that which is awkward. Although the small term effects of procrastination info might seem as “positive” the long-run effects are just about always negative.
Opportunity is seldom the consequences of one waiting for it. When one put them in line with what they require most by the conscious action one expose to themselves to opportunity. It’s never a case of whether one has chances but instead is one seeing the chances? But even more significantly, are one using the chances or are one procrastinating? One thing is for sure and that is why procrastination happens as a use one won’t even see all the chances on the doorstep.
One will live the life in disturbances, constantly looking short term “delights” to fend off the actual challenges that will make one to draw the actual results. One will always “brush off” to the real chances. Those who win are seldom the people with the most brilliant opportunities. They are the individual who saw a chance where no one else see it and then they took activeness to understand it.
The rewards one draws from life will be either directly or an indirect effect of the actions or the inactions. Not only will procrastination stop the individual from drawing the rewards but the inaction will stop from even being disclosed to chance.

Procrastination comes when one thinks a lot about what they require to do and how hard is, one begin guessing of multiple other thinks one can do or have to do ahead beginning the work. This makes a lot of frustration, anxiousness, strain and a lot of wasted time.
Cause and Effect of Procrastination #1: The Fear of Failure

The fear of failure is an important cause and effect for procrastination. All kinds of procrastination have some type of fear at its roots. The fear of failure is a normal fear that everyone share. As human beings, one is not designed to fail. One is designed to systematically advance and ameliorate. This fear then keeps thee individual put away in procrastination as a way of keeping them from failing. The effect of procrastination info is quite obvious: failure to use chances. If one doesn’t act on chances they aren’t actually chances are they? It is never a case of whether chances are knocking, but rather a case of whether you are acting on this opportunity and utilizing it.

Cause And Effect of Procrastination #2: Feeling Overwhelmed

Just like the physical capability, one has a bound to what one can take on at any given time, and only one knows what that restriction is. When one overcharges physically, the body normally collapses in some kind or another. When one overloads oneselves mental and emotional, the mind will interfere, normally in the kind of procrastination, to keep the individual from a mental overburden. The effects of this kind are that one begins to fend off tasks, particularly the vital ones that one know one must do.

Cause And Effect of Procrastination #3: Postponing Important Tasks

Procrastinators are active looking for out deflections, not because they are lazy, but because at some content they dread the task that they are fending off. By deferring a task one really lies to themselves. Rather than abandoning or ceasing all one is doing is to make the individual feel a little better by saying I’ll do it hereafter. By deferring necessary tasks, one defers vital results. Remember that for every reason there is a consequence and when one defers the actions one also defers the results.

There are no classical answers to what are the causes and effects of procrastination, as the effects are frequently far reaching. The simple concept is that without confident and creative action on a coherent basis, one will seldom make any important results.

By realizing what are the effects of procrastination you will get to understand how procrastination leads to experiencing unnecessary hardships that in turn will make life too stressed out and burdensome to bear. Learning about what are the effects of procrastination should make you also realize that often the cause of procrastination is your own bad habits which you need to get rid of. Procrastination leads to simple tasks seeming to become too difficult and what should have been a routine matter gets blown up into being a big deal.

Big And Major Issues In Life

Of course the answer to the question what are the effects of procrastination would be that in case you have been procrastinating about trivial matters you would not have much to worry about. However, when you procrastinate about big and major issues in your life you will certainly not be pleased by what you find out about what are the effects of procrastination.

The unpleasant truth of the fact is that procrastination is more likely than not to be at the root of all major problems a person experiences in life. However, at the same time you might also realize that the answer to the question ‘what are the effects of procrastination’ is that such effects are often indirect and not direct though the effects are also very far reaching.

Fatigue is one of these indirect consequences of procrastination and it is also a devastating effect of procrastination and furthermore fatigue is considered both cause as too the effect of procrastination. As everyone knows, procrastination leads to postponement of important issues and this habit of postponing things then gives rise to feeling fatigued.

Remember that being fatigued is a lot different than feeling tired because the former is a mental as well as emotional condition while the latter is mainly physical. So, while you can solve tiredness by getting adequate rest you cannot so easily get rid of fatigue. The best way to answer the question as to ‘what are the effects of procrastination’ is to consider procrastination to be a habit that makes your body and mind run on an emotional treadmill in which you continue running but without ever reaching your destination.

It is also possible to learn the cause and effect of procrastination. Some people believe that perfection is both the cause and also the effect of procrastination. However, though it is well known that procrastination is both the cause as too the effect of procrastination it is not always so easy to find out the exact reason why people tend to be too perfectionist.
